Love it!

I really enjoyed reading this book! I haven't quite finished it just a chapter or two left, but so far it's good and I've learned a lot! I've been highlighting the what I feel is the important information and one member of our search team said that it looked like I was highlighting the whole book! The only complaint I have is the acronyms. I usually forget what they mean while reading and have to flip back to find out what they are! But other than that great read and lots of information for people just starting in the field or even for people who have been doing this a long time!

As a long time SAR dog trainer and handler I cannot say enough about this wonderful book. It is a must have for all SAR dog handlers even if they are not going to specialize in HRD work.
Dr. Susan Stejskal is a board certified toxicologist and it is evident in the quality of this book. This is by far one of the best books that I have read for HRD work and dogs. I cannot say enough positive about it. It is full of documented facts, written in a professional, scholarly manner yet is easy to understand. There are many good quality black and white photos and some color photos. The book covers the basics of decomposition, how it is affected by the environment including the chemical profile of odor from human remains.
Ms. Stejskal also explains how weather, topography, ground cover and terrain affect the way odor travels. This is essential information for the HRD dog handler to better understand and use their dog.
The final chapter reviews case reports about deceased persons and how the environmental variables came into play in finding the missing person. Aerial views of the discovery sites in color are included.
Again, this is one of the most detailed, professional books that I have read on the topic of HRD work. I applaud Dr. Susan Stejskal for her work and the writing of this very important up-to-date book on HRD. It is must for all SAR dog handlers, especially for those who work HRD or plan to.
