This is an excellent book on Ancient Roman and Greek Philosophy over the ocular metaphor in relation to the self, lover and community. This is one of my favorite go to books over the dynamics of gaze and it covers a wide range philosophers other than Socrates, Plato and Aristotle.

Of course, she chooses good subjects: cadavers in Stiff (2003), ghosts in Spook (2005), and now a genuinely fertile topic in Bonk. As Roach points out, scientists studying sex are often treated with disdain, as though there is something inherently suspicious about the enterprise. Yet through understanding the anatomy, physiology, and psychology of sexual response, scientists can help us toward greater marital and nonmarital happiness. Such altruistic intentions, which the book shares, aren’t the wellspring of its appeal, however. I absolutely love this book and I absolutely love Mary Roach

I absolutely love this book and I absolutely love Mary Roach. It's a great excuse to not only learn but get in a few immature giggles, too. Mary does a great job of using humor to enhance the material of her book instead of overshadowing it. You'll learn so much about a topic many people [ahem] participate in but may not know a lot about. My favorite part was when she discusses an experiment involving sex and an MRI machine. I won't spoil it for you - you'll have to read the book!

A great read for almost anyone

Ok, maybe not for kids. Very enjoyable look at sex and sex research (and researchers) from ancient references to state of the art modern labs. Witty and entertaining, it brought a lot of smiles and giggles. Despite that, it's not a book of sexual humor but a serious look at the physical and psychological aspects of human sexuality, and the research that has and is still going on. I learned so much from this book, and I thought I knew a lot about sex. Great book, highly recommended.

Exhaustive physical science and sociological study of sex. Fascinating but cringe-inducing at times

We enjoyed listening to Mary Roach being interviewed on Fresh Air about this book so I thought this would be a great foray into my first science book read. I mean really, wouldn't a book about sex be great? Well when you really dive into the details of the various research and clinical work being done it can become kind of "squeamish".

Studying sex is tough. It's difficult to get funding for research because the research boards think you are a pervert and it can be difficult to get good subjects. As Mary Roach says "The laboratory study of sex has never been an easy, safe, or well-paid undertaking. Study by study, the gains may seem small and occasionally silly, but the aggregation of all that has been learned, the lurching tango of academe and popular culture, has led us to a happier place. Hats and pants off to you all." (p 304).

Mary Roach is an exhaustive researcher; she went around the world to cover the topics. The book covers both scientific topics and sociological. I found the sociological aspects to be my favorite. There are some real cringe-worthy moments in the book as when she discusses penile implants. But we do get some insight into what an orgasm; we read about 20 definitions. Who knew it could be so complicated. We also learn why men get stuffy noses when they take Viagra and "how rectal probe electrostimulation came into use as a therapy for muscle spasticity in people with spinal cord injuries". (p 222).

On the sociological side we find that "the best sex going on in Masters and Johnson's lab was the sex being had by the committed gay and lesbian couples. Not because they were practicing special secret homosexual sex techniques, but because they 'took their time.' They lost themselves - in each other, and in sex."(p 300). "Masters points out that the heterosexuals were at a disadvantage, as they do not benefit from what he called 'gender empathy'. Doing unto you partner as you woud do unto yourself only works well when youre gay." (p 302).

I also enjoyed the study of putting many students in a dark room so they can do what they like without the fear of judgement. Couples form. "'People share strong yearnings to be close to each other,' concluded the authors. 'However, social norms make it too costly to express these feelings. '" (Location 3814)

Mary Roach's style reminds me of Calvin Trillin: ironic with a little distance. (Well not too much distance: she and her husband did have sex in an MRI as part of the study). I'll read "Packing for Mars" where I imagine she'll have plenty to say about getting rid of bodily waste.

Grade 7-10-Alyssa Bresnahan brings to life the character of 15-year-old Janie Johnson, a teenager whose typical angst is compounded when she discovers her picture on a milk carton as a missing child. Searching for the truth behind the kidnapping consumes Janie as she tries to maintain the balance between the craziness of her discovery and the teenage world of school, dates, and friends. Bresnahan deftly portrays each character, creating a unique voice for each. The sense of terror that develops in Janie is exhibited by the rising tension in the narrator's voice. Read equally well is the part of Janie's parents-their voices changing during the course of the story from professional and upbeat to wary and defeated. The progression of the characters complements the piece nicely. While the pace of the recording remains steady, it is slightly too slow and tedious at times to accompany this suspenseful tale. However, this does not outweigh the value of Caroline B. Cooney's excellent story (BDD, 1996) which has been a favorite read for young teenagers, an IRA-CBC Children's Choice Book, and the subject of a television special. The popularity of the book will cause this recording to leap off the shelves.

I gave The Face On The Milk Carton by Caroline B. Cooney four stars. I'm not an avid reader, but when I picked this book up I couldn't put it down. It had a believable, tension filled plot with action and suspense. In the book Janie Johnson, recognizing her own three year old, two inch face on her milk carton, starts an emotional trip that takes her from her high school lunch room to the truth about her identity. Janie unravels the mystery of her birth. She tries and succeeds in finding out if her parents are her real parents or if she was kidnapped ten years ago as a young child. The only reason I didn't give this book five stars is because it kept jumping around, getting off the subject it was trying to explain, then coming back to it a couple pages later. I really liked The Face on the Milk Carton and I would recommend it to any teenager or adult.

I loved this book it kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't stop reading. I loved the mysterious aspect of the book. I also liked how there was a love story included. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants a good read.

Body swapping second chance romance. Amazing!

Wow. What can I say.
I read this book so fast because finally I had found an interesting different story.
We first meet Nadia who wakes up in Ehrynn's body in the hospital.
The real Ehyrnn had cut her wrists is what we later find out is a plot to implicate her husband in a crime in order to get out of their loveless marriage with all her husbands fortune.
Nash is Ehrynn husband. He is a sweet man who knows he has done wrong himself in the marriage but knows if he filed for divorce first he would lose out.
Nadia is nothing like Ehrynn.
What follows is a heart warming story and semi love triangle.
What I thought was going to be a cliff hanger ending is actually a lovely new beginning which leaves the author room for a sequel.
I'd love to see this turn into a series with other body swapping stories.

Nadia wakes up to find she has been transported to another woman's body .I absolutely loved it and I can truthfully say that I have never read a bad story written by her. The other woman is a witch of a woman. A spoiled brat who is divorcing her husband Nash Rose. Bryan Rose wakes up in Nadia's body and is not a happy camper to find herself there. I don't want to give away the storyline to much. It would take away from your enjoyment. Great writing and proofing. I highly recommend it

Nadia Logermeyer woke up in a hospital bed to everyone calling her Ehrynn Rose. Her "husband" was there, a man she didn't know, and she had apparently attempted to commit suicide, which she had no memory of. Who is Ehrynn Rose?

After talking with Ehrynn's doctors and psychiatrists, Nadia learns what kind of person she really was, and that nobody will likely miss her. She attempted suicide because her husband wouldn't honor her prenup and she wanted his money. The doctors think she’s acting or has a personality disorder, but Nash Rose believes her story, and he likes this version of Ehrynn better. So much better.

But really, who is Ehrynn Rose and where is she? It’s only a matter of time before we find out, and she’s not happy at all. Nash and Nadia could make a life together and be happy, but what happens when everything catches up to them? Truths are revealed, scheming plans are found out, and nothing is as it seemed. And the biggest lesson we learn is what’s on the outside isn’t what matters, and money isn’t everything.

Another GREAT story from the mind of Linda Mooney! I haven’t found anything that was bad from this lady. Give it a shot, you won’t regret it!

Absolutely enjoyed this first in a new series!! Rock star romance at it's best! With a sexy as sin Dash as the lead singer. Leading lady, Lexy, the bands new drummer's best old friend a photographer asked to join the tour to take some candid pictures at Dash's insistence. He finds her someone he cant just let walk away! The almost love triangle dynamic between old friends Lex and Luke, and Dash make for some fun banter back and forth between the 3 of them. Great jealous possessiveness by Dash, the rock God who has found himself trying to woo a woman for the first time in far too long. I found the book fun & funny with a decent dose of drama, action and steam. L.P. Maxa's writing voice was easy to read and the story kept me engaged until the very end (sort of end? end-ish?). I'd definitely love to hear more from the boys in Devil's Share and look forward to the next book. Maxa gives us well written side characters that kept me intrigued about their own pasts and wanting to know about their futures. I think this series will be very fun to read! Highly recommend to anyone who likes reading Michelle Valentine or Olivia Cunning (two of my favorites)!

Sexy Rock Stars.....check. Hot Lead Singer.... Check.

Love sexy rock star books, especially ones without all the groupie drama. Lex boards a rock star bus and her future becomes a bit more clear as she spends time with Dash the lead singer. I enjoyed the romance from the start that bloomed between Dash and Lexie. This group seems a bit playful and less manwhorish than most rocker books. I enjoyed meeting all the members and the drama they created. Four stars of entertainment!

Play Nice is my new favorite book. I fell in LOVE with all of the characters and never wanted the book to end.
LP Maxa keeps amazing me with her work. From St. Leasing to the Devil's Share series, I have become LP's biggest fan.
I NEVER wanted this book to end... now I cannot wait for the next book in this amazing series.
HIGHLY recommended... actually... I insist on everyone reading this book. If you like romance and rock & roll... you will love it!
