Review
‘THE must-have basic text for generations of up-and-coming broadcast journalists. Sarah Rowlands and Gary Hudson have tied it much more tightly to the actual delivery of training as well as getting very close to real life in radio and TV newsrooms. And, crucially, it places everything in the context of the continuing internet revolution taking place in our industry.
It’s bang up-to-date but tackles the problem of keeping up-to-date, when so much is changing, so fast, by also offering a companion website, updating developments as they happen. The “Newsdays” section, analysing the way that different radio and TV outlets produce their bulletins, is fascinating. And finally, the accompanying (free) DVD demonstrating filming and editing techniques is a brilliant idea.’
Jim Latham – Secretary BJTC (Broadcast Journalism Training Council)
'...invaluable in university journalism departments, on professional training courses, and in the broadcast newsroom itself. I would certainly adopt this for my students.' - Mike Henfield, University of Salford
‘It is very well written and comprehensive too. I especially like the examples, which are recent and all highly relevant.’ - Roy Saatchi, of Roy Saatchi Associates
‘I think this book is new, up to date, of the moment and I would recommend it to our students … very clear, easy to follow and interesting to read’ - Jennifer Brown, University of Leeds
‘The writing style was engaging and quite entertaining’- Carole Fleming, NTU
